About

Welcome to A Maenad’s Cellar, a space where ancient history meets the vibrant world of wine and spirits. I’m Molly and I simply have an affinity for antiquity and an appreciation for fine wine.

Why “A Maenad’s Cellar“?

The name of this blog is inspired by my interest in the ancient Greek world. In simple terms, a maenad is a follower of Dionysos – the Greek god of wine. I do call myself a maenad, I’m definitely mad (see also, crazy) enough to be one.

What You’ll Find Here

A Maenad’s Cellar is a place for anyone who shares my love for wine, ancient history, and mythology. Whether you’re a seasoned oenophile or just starting to explore the world of wine, this blog offers something for you. Here’s a taste of what you can expect:

  • Wine Recommendations on a Budget: Exploring the world of wine doesn’t have to break the bank! I share my favorite finds that offer great quality without a hefty price tag.
  • Wine 101: A series of posts to help beginners understand the basics of wine, from tasting tips to choosing the right bottle.
  • Ancient Greece and Greek Mythology: Dive into the fascinating world of ancient Greece, its gods, myths, and daily life. As a devout worshiper of the Greek gods, I explore how these stories and deities continue to inspire us today.
  • Book Reviews and Recommendations: As an avid reader and aspiring author, I also share reviews of books set in ancient Greece and related topics.
  • Study with Molls: A side project where I share study tips and tricks, from a neurodivergent point of view as I pursue a degree in classical studies.

My Journey

I started A Maenad’s Cellar out of a deep desire to share my passion and what I learn along the way. I’m not an expert, contrarily, just a fellow enthusiast eager to explore and connect with others who feel the same. My love for these subjects is deep and I’m in the (long) process of pursuing both professionally. I am a classical studies student and I’m working on getting my WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) awards in wine knowledge.
